Tub vs. Shower: Should I Make the Switch?

Two people asked me this week whether replacing a bathtub with a shower would hurt resale value. The answer? It depends on the type of property.

If you own a single-family home or a larger condo likely to attract families, it’s smart to keep at least one tub. Families with young children usually need one.

But if you have a one- or two-bedroom condo that will appeal more to singles or couples, a shower-only setup is usually fine. It can even make the bathroom feel more spacious and may be a plus for buyers with accessibility needs.

This is the type of job that requires permits in San Francisco, so I recommend hiring a licensed contractor who will pull and close out permits for you.
