Tired of seeing that dumped mattress on your corner? Is someone blocking your driveway? Sewage backup two doors down grossing you out? San Francisco has an app for that, and it’s 311. (There’s also a Web site.)
The reality is that San Francisco’s government services won’t always spot street issues as quickly as you will. So reporting illegal dumping, graffiti and fallen trees helps move things along and keep our streets cleaner and safer.
Someone dumped a big carpet on my street this week. I took a photo of it on Sunday, uploaded it to the 311 app and submitted the ticket. The carpet was gone by Monday morning and I could see in my report history that the city had closed out the ticket.
I’ve also called 311 in the past to find out the process for obtaining a parking permit for a moving truck. My client had closed escrow, and was going to need to block off parking spaces for the moving truck. 311 got me the contact information for the appropriate police precinct, and from there, I got the very complicated set of directions for the moving process.
Take a look at the various areas in which 311 can help. And download the app today if you don’t already have it!
